Coimbatore: City Corporation again decided to collect fees for door-to-door garbage collection.
The Civic Agency was first framed by regulations in 2016 to collect user costs for solid waste management.
It began collecting costs in 2017, but wait a minute.
The corporation uses an urban information system (UTIS) to collect user costs, said an official.
“This software activates a collection of user costs along with property tax once in six months.
Until RS 1 Crore is collected in a short time.
We stopped collecting costs after we returned to use old software,” he said 30, 2021, to collect costs with effects From October 1, 2021.
Residen needs to pay between Rs 10 and Rs 50 depending on property tax.
“It can also be paid once in six months with property tax.
It has been decided to collect retrospective costs starting April 1, 2017.
Residents will be asked to pay arrears in nine installments, starting October 2022,” the official said.
“Residents expect better services from the Civic body.
According to the rules of solid waste management, 2016, garbage disposal is a shared responsibility.” But residents were unhappy with the decision, said RTI activist P Thiyagarajan.
“This will impose an undue burden in public.
Ideally, the cost of handling waste must be fulfilled by City Corporation with money collected as property tax.
Collecting retrospective costs will further worsen the impact of the financial crisis caused by the Covid-19 outbreak,” he said.
