New Delhi: The number of detention zones in Delhi have seen a almost 17-fold increase of 1,243 zones at 1 to 20,878 zones on January 12 amid increasing Coronavirus cases in the city.
The increase in the number of detention zones has been proportional to a surge in infection in the national capital.
According to district officials, emphasis is placed on Mirco’s detention to capture the spread of infection.
Usually, an area is set as a detention zone where three or more cases of Covid-19 in the family or in detected environments.
This is a dynamic exercise carried out by district authorities that see the situation and number of infections, they said.
“Each district judge (DM) must assess the situation in the area.
Sometimes, even if there is one case in the household, the DMS declares the detention zone if there is a high level of infection in the area,” said a senior government official.
He said declaring the detention zone area depending on CDMO assessment, district judges and district supervisors.
Delhi Epidemic Disease Regulation Covid-19, 2020, authorized district judges to close the geographical area, prohibit entries and out of the population of the detention zone and to take any steps directed by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of disease.
According to official data, the Central District has more than 3,400 active detention zones, followed by the West (2,680) and South (1,481).
The Eastern and Northeast District has a lower number of active detention zones in 139 and 278.
On January 1, when the number of cases of Covid-19 reached 2,716 and the level of prospitis was 3.64 percent, the number of detention zones was 1,243.
The next day, one-day infection rose to 3,194 with a level of participation of more than 4.5 percent, and the detention zone rose to 1,621.
On January 4, cases have been multiplied by almost four times since January 1 and the number of detention zones reached 2.992.
The zone rose to 3,908 because one day infection crossed 10,000 marks.
A official from the Northeast Regency requested anonymity say, “There is a lower amount of detention zone in our district because of the lower active case and the cluster is also lacking.” At present, even if there are two cases in the family or in close-up households, they are set as detention zones.
