Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently announced the birth of their second baby and first daughter.
The proud parents revealed the name of their baby girl, a few moments ago, which is an ode to Queen Elizabeth and Harry’s late mum Princess Diana.
The tiny tot, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, was born on Friday, June 4, at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, California.
In a press statement, the couple Harry and Meghan said, “On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili.
She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe” and also added, “Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.” Their press secretary also informed, both mother and baby were doing well and were back at home.
Speaking about the origin of the name – Lilibet, this was Queen Elizabeth’s childhood nickname.
The couple’s decision to name their daughter after the 95-year-old monarch came less than two months after the death of her husband Prince Philip, the royal family’s patriarchal figure.
The newborn’s middle name Diana pays homage to Princess Diana, Harry’s late mother.
Speaking about the name too, the couple said in a statement, “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet.Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales”
Harry and Meghan’s welcomed their first child, Archie in 2019.
