Mumbai: Solve educational institutions that join EDTech companies to offer online or conventional programs, university grant commissions and all technical education councils have warned them about termination.
In the notification of red letters issued on Sunday, the two agents asked the Institute of Higher Education (Heis) to cancel the agreement with the EDTECH company.
Officials said the Higher Education Secretary had marked advertisements that offer education degrees through the EDTECH company.
“Some EDTech companies provide advertisements in newspapers / social media / TV, etc., that they offer degree and diploma programs in ODL / Online mode in connection with several universities / institutions.
Such franchise settings are not permitted and the action will be taken against the EDTECH company Default and Heis under applicable laws / regulations, “the notice said.
A senior official explains that the university is outsourcing content creation to Edtech players, some request faculties from such companies to teach and certain EDTech companies also provide degrees.
“Some universities and institutions run programs through Edtech companies.
Use certain platforms or different learning management systems but many higher education institutions in India are transferring to run their online courses to the EDTech company.
The type of outsourcing or franchise is clearly not permitted,” said an officer from Aicte.
“We don’t want Edtech players to advertise that they offer MBA or BMS.
They don’t have permission to do it.
How do we maintain checks on quality?” asked the UGC officer.
Notification of January 16 also warned students to such settings and said they had to check the status of recognition / rights to the program before registering in it.
This is not the first time that Stern Advisors on Edtech’s room has been issued.
Three weeks ago, the Ministry of Education India issued an advisor about the Edtech platform, said some companies target families by obtaining the electronic fund transfer mandate (EFT) that signed or activated auto-debit features.
The ministry suggests parents to disable automatic discharge options for payment of subscription fees in the ‘Freemium’ model.
Experts feel the notice is a touch of death for Edtech’s company.
“Most EDTech companies get authenticity and their recognition because of their partnership with recognized and well-known universities.
With such a setting questioned, will students still enroll at Dotcom University?” asked a retired UGC Chairman.
