New Delhi: The Door Election Commission on Monday rescheduled the election date for the election of the Punjab assembly until February 20.
Punjab was previously scheduled to choose on February 14 in the second stage of the poll.
In a statement, the Commission said the poll will now be held on February 20.
Coinciding with the third phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh.
However, Congress and BJP have asked for a poll panel to reschedule the date because it was close to the celebration of Ravidas Jayanti on February 16.
Congress on January 13 in written requests has said that more than 20 lakh caste voter schedules go to religious visits to places related to Sant Ravidas Ji.
Further party said that a number of SC voters were quite large visits Varanasi from 10 to 16 February every year, therefore, the date scheduled for voting in Punjab must be postponed until Ravidas Jayanti.
Then BJP also made a similar request to EC, reaffirming the same reason and said many voters would lose their religious journey or miss voting on February 14.
The AAM AADMI party on Monday also made the same request as the Commission Ravidas Jayanti.
