Thiruvananthapuram: The number of cases of Covid-19 daily continues to rise sharply in Kerala with the country that reported 22,946 fresh infections on Monday took the total Kaseeload to 53,92,652, a health bulletin said.
The State Health Department said the growth rate of the new virus case has increased in 182 percent compared to the number of cases reported in the previous week (January 10 and 16).
Toll in the country touched 50,904 with 72 deaths related to viruses, he said.
Among the new deaths, 18 were recorded over the past few days and 54 was appointed as Covid-19 deaths after receiving an appeal based on the new central guidelines and the direction of the Supreme Court.
“At present, there are 1,21,458 cases of Active Covid-19 in stating only 3.7 percent need hospitalization,” said the state government in a press release.
Among the districts, Thiruvananthapuram recorded 5,863 cases, the highest in the state, followed by Ernakulam with 4,100 cases and cozhikodes with 2,043 cases.
The state has tested 69,373 samples in the last 24 hours.
Of those found infected, 181 reached the country from the interim while 22,179 contracted disease from their contacts.
The source of 442 infection has not been traced.
Meanwhile, 5,280 people were restored from the disease on Monday to take total recovery in the state to 52.28,710.
