Bhubaneswar: The first phase cost of rebuilding SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, has increased around RS 1,000 Crore after the Odisha Bridge Implementing Agency and Construction Corporation (OBCC) revisified from RS 3,500 Crore to Rs 4,474 Crore.
Sources say the State Work Department that has implemented a project has also been seeking approval from the Ministry of Health for the purpose.
Even though the very large revision of the cost has raised eyebrows, OBCC has confirmed it.
“The number of Rs 3,500 Crore is an indicative cost.
When the SCB Medical College and the Hospital will be the best in class with AIIMS Plus standards, the higher estimates have been made to meet the norms.
This is why the project costs increase,” said a senior official.
OBCC asking for anonymity.
In order for the implementation of the project to be completed while work has also been given.
The L & T infrastructure giant will apply the clinical part of the project to an investment of Rs 2,636 Crore, while NCC Limited will apply the housing section at RS 888 Crore.
While the 30-month timeline has been set for the completion of the clinical part, the housing section is set to complete in 24 months.
The state government has planned to spend RS 1,000 Crore during the project phase-II.
The target has been set to develop a 3,500-bed facility in the first phase while the number of beds will be increased to 5,000 in the second phase.
