SAMBALPUR: After witnessing weeks of terrifying scenes of the rush of critical patients, the two Covid-19 hospitals in the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar), Burla can heave a sigh of relief with a remarkable dip in bed occupancy.
As on Sunday, out of the 380 beds in the two Covid-19 hospitals of Vimsar, only 150 were occupied.
Officials said there are 225 beds, including 50 in the ICU of the Covid Hospital-I.
The other Covid hospital has 155 beds, of which 15 are in its ICU.
As on Sunday, there were 85 patients, including 42 in the ICU of the Covid Hospital-I.
The Covid Hospital-II had as many as 65 patients, including 12 in the ICU.
Until a few days ago, these hospitals had to send back many patients owing to the unavailability of beds.
Sudarshan Pothal, the nodal officer of Covid-19 in Vimsar, said, “The ICU beds of the two Covid-19 hospitals are almost full, but the occupancy of beds in the general wards of the hospitals has decreased remarkably.” He attributed the let-up in cases and the consequent breather to hospitals to the lockdown.
Sambalpur, which has been seeing less than 200 cases for the past six days, reported 107 new infections in the last 24 hours.
