LONDON: The Head of the British Cricket said there was a “no silver bullet” for domestic first grade cricket after the demand for substantial reform after a gloomy ash campaign.
The Chief Executive of the British Cricket Agency and Wales (ECB) Tom Harrison called on a “reset” red ball to help the Joe Root test team, who recently slumped to the 4-0-series defeat at the Australia ECB announcing domestic equipment 2022 on Thursday.
There will be five rounds of the four-day championship match in June and July, compared to only three years ago, because competition returned to the structure of two regular divisions after two seasons changed due to the Pandemic Coronavirus.
But the season will begin on April 7, with four consecutive weeks of red ball matches, and finished on September 29 – without championship equipment at all in August, when the second edition of a hundred will be prioritized.
Neil Snowball, ECB Managing Director of the Cricket Regency, acknowledged that the schedule was not ideal in striking the balance between class and limited format but said it was an increase from last year.
“We know there are no silver bullets,” he said.
“All the different things we need to consider have been talked about a lot – is it the type of ball we use, what type of tone we play, competitive format.” Need comprehensive reviews.
I think there is a feeling that we don’t have the right balance (between formatting) at this time and that’s what we need to see.
“We need to get a first-class district, ECB, PCA Association (Cricketers Professional ‘) and other stakeholders together and then arrange a plan until this year hopefully so we can start making some changes from 2023.
But there is an absolute commitment to do that Of course.
