Lucknow: The Future of First Minister Akhilesh Yadav will oppose the election of his first assembly from the Karhal seat in the Mainpuri District.
The decision was taken on Thursday night after discussing with the leaders of the Jamajwadi Party and formal announcements possibly in the next few days.
Karhal is 4 km from Saifai – Original Village SP Patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The decision of SP’s head to take plunge immediately after BJP nominated CM Yogi Aditentalath to oppose its first assembly selection of Gorakhpur (urban) and Deputy Penanjas CM Keshav Prasad Maurya from Sirathu.
Political observer feels it is an attempt to blunt attacks from BJP for Akhilesh not fighting for the election.
He, and most family members, have studied at Karhal’s Jain Inter College.
The constituency has been with SP since 1993 (SP appeared in 1992) except for the 2002 Assembly poll when sitting MLA SOBARAN Singh contested on BJP tickets.
After that, he joined SP and has won the election three times in a row.
Sources say various party units of the party have approached the SP head for the contest from their regions since talks about the entry into the polls obtained by momentum, especially after Yogi’s nomination was resolved.
