Navi Mumbai: Representatives from 27 villages from affected areas due to the Navi Mumbai International Airport project (Nmia), gathered at OLE-Tanghar Chowk, near the airport site on Monday morning to protest CidCo.
Protesters demand that the airport will come named Pap Leader DB Patil.
After the failed talks between the Action All Party Committee and CidCo, the villagers decided to stop working on the airport site while pressing the government to reconsider his decision.
According to the police, only around 400 protesters gathered at the location because many villagers failed to emerge because of heavy police bandobast.
More than 1,500 police were deployed at the location of the protest.
A villagers, Prakash Patil said, “We expect about 5,000 protesters in the next few hours.
However, they are afraid of the possibility of police action.
We are here to send a strong message to the government about our hatred.”
