Thiruvananthapuram: Kadakkavoor police here on Tuesday recorded the arrest of a five-member gang involved in a chain robbery using a stolen vehicle.
Police identified the defendants as Shamir, 21, Pallippuram, Abin, 21, from Kadakkavoor, Akhil thugs, 20, from Vakkom, Hareesh, 19, from Chirayinkezhu and Jernaca, 22, nylamel.
Among the defendants, Shamir and Abin were accused of stealing a vehicle and then used it to carry out a robbery.
Akhil Precan and Hareesh were accused of modifying stolen motorbikes outside recognition.
Jeshisha was accused of helping them sell the golden chain taken.
The police said the defendant was held after an investigation into the case relating to the golden chain robbery of an 80-year-old woman in Angilimukku near Kadakkavoor on Saturday morning.
Both were accused of terrible attacking women who were walking along the road before running away with the golden chain.
The incident was captured on camera surveillance.
Duo is a custom violation, involved in a series of similar crimes inside and outside the district, including Kankumumari Regency in Tamil Nadu.
Therefore the police can easily identify them.
After being detained, the police learned that the motorbike they used was allegedly stolen from the parking lot of the government medical hospital during early Saturday.
Both also expressed the involvement of others.
The police have recovered vehicles.
Jeshisha, who works as an assistant manager at a private finance company in Chalakudy, has helped them sell chains.
The police also investigated their financial activities.
During the interrogation, the gang claimed to commit more like evil in the past.
The team that caught the defendant was led by Varkala DSP P Niyas, Kadakkavoor Station House Officer Inspector V Ajesh and Sub Inspector S Deepu and Mahin Manohar.
