Pune: Five people, including three women, from Mira’s road in the Thane District, traveling with the SUV died when the four-wheel was first beaten and then jumped over the median on the Pune-Mumbai highway and hit a container truck traveling the corridor at 8 am on Sundays ShilaTane village near Lonavla.
The accident caused a large traffic jam in the pune-to-mumbai corridor from the highway.
It took almost an hour for the traffic authority to restore the normal vehicle movement.
Four of the victims _ Mahavir Tilok (43), Shalini Tilok (20), Seema Raj (36), Masidevi Tilok (65) came from the same family from Snanti Park Society in Mira Roades.
The fifth victim, Rihan Ansari (30) Kurla in Mumbai, drove a car.
“The family took Masidevi to the hospital in Nipani along the border of Kolhapur with Karnataka for the treatment of the disease,” said Pravin Lonavla Rural Inspector.
Assistant Inspector Sumaiya Bagwan of Highway Safety Patrol (HSP) told TII, “The cause of the accident was confirmed.

Driver Truck Container Gahininath Shekde (35) from Beed District, fled with a minor injury.
When contacted, Shekde told Tii, “I drove an empty container to Mumbai.
The SUV at high speed suddenly jumped median in front of me and before I could react, it hit my vehicle.
The impact was on the bottom side of the container.
Therefore suffered a minor injury.
