Pune: The death of five workers in an accident at the location of the building under construction in Jerawada on Thursday night has pushed part of the representative elected city to criticize the administration of citizenship to enable the work late at night.
A heavy iron and construction material fell on workers at the lower building of construction in Shastrinagar in Jerawada at around 11:15 a.m.
on Thursday, killing five of them and leaving five other injured.
MLA Sunil Tingre on Friday said the construction site was “very bad lit” and the job “happens outside the time limit”.
He said when he had visited the accident site, he found the norms of safety not being obeyed.
“Rescue operations begin only after the fire engine reaches the accident site.
I will take problems with the country’s cabinet and increase the problem faced by construction workers.
This might be the fourth incident in Pune recently when construction workers died of negligence,” he said.
“Builder has provided work to other companies in a contract.
But builders are equally responsible for death.
Ideally, builders must also keep an eye on and monitor the work site.
Some workers on the site said they were exploited by the contractor,” Tingre said.
The local corporator Yogesh Mulik said safety at the construction site was the main problem.
“Repeated accidents in the past have recently revealed that the builders are not serious about safety measures at construction sites.
The civil body must take strict action on builders found to violate safety norms and make people work beyond the specified time limit , “he said.
Asked about how the work was permitted at the Shastrinagar construction site at night, a citizenship official said there was no provision to provide a limit related to a certain time.
“Ideally, construction work is avoided at night to avoid noise that can disturb the person who lives near the site,” the official said.
Other civil officials said the investigation would explain more if permission was searched.
“If there is a violation, site engineers and other people responsible for salvation will be taken to the task,” he said.
