Chennai: Seventy people including the actor’s family, 40 parents and some pregnant women have magical runaway, when the fire broke in a commercial complex at Pondy Bazaar on Sunday morning.
Everyone in the hall climbed onto the terrace and waited above looking for firefighters to save them for almost 30 minutes.
The three-story building located in Pondy Bazaar has at least seven shops on the ground floor, textile shops and software companies on the first floor and a church on the second floor.
The fire spread from a textile store on the first floor, with rescue personnel who said that electrical short circuit could be the cause.
While Sunday mass was in the church, those who gathered there found smoke entering the church air hall.
Within minutes, the entire room is overwhelmed with smoke.
Immediately, actor Shree Kumar, who came there with his mother, found the porch door opened and decided to evacuate everything and took him to the terrace for salvation.
Sreekumar, who also took refuge on the terrace, said, “Before the firefighters can arrive, we save two water tanks on the terrace ready to delay the fire, if spreading up.
Smoke starts to spread to the terrace too”.
The fire was said to have broken at 11:30 a.m.
The fire department struggled almost an hour to delay the fire and lower them.
