Patna: more than four years ago, Noor Mohammad’s family member assumed he had died because they could not track it for one year since he lost in 2017.
But a telephone call from an advocate from Muzaffarpur this week was like a miracle when they recognize that Mohammad, residents Murshidabad in West Bengal, has been in Muzaffarpur prison.
He had left his home in 2017 and so far went to Muzaffarpur because of his mental instability.
For almost a year, he begged and lived when the police arrested him one day after a old woman filed a complaint with the Hathauri police station, accused him of trying to kidnap his second grandfather.
Advocate Homa Praween, who pursued his case was handed over to him by the District Law Service Authority four months ago, told Ti that Mohammad was placed in prison in 2018.
“He (Mohammad) mentally unstable and also has language constraints.
Prison Authority sends a case – such prisoners, who don’t have anyone to get a guarantee, to the District Legal Service Authority.
Mohammad is one such case, “Homa said, adding language barriers and addresses that are incomplete with the wrong information about the police station mentioned In FIR is a big challenge.
“I met him three times and collected a few words that I was looking for on the internet.
He came from Murshidabad, but there was Murshidabad in Assam too.
The name of the police station in FIR was mentioned as Morwa, but there was Borwa Thana.
After joining the dots, I was in touch with the Borwa Block Development Officer in West Bengal and asked him to pass my contact number from every member of the Sondarpur village ward.
When I was related to the village head and told him about a man who languished in prison, he sent me Mohammad’s daughter’s cellphone number, “Homa said.
A further advocate said that Mohammad’s family thought he had died, but when they were told about him alive, they began to cry.
His son and his two daughters came and met their father in prison on February 7, “It was an emotional scene and they all cried.
On February 8, he got a guarantee and returned home with his family immediately,” Homa added.
