New Delhi: Diapidated Condition of Hostel in JNU and the number of classrooms that are inadequate to ensure social distance is one of the problems highlighted by Jnusu to Deputy Chancellor Santishree who was just appointed by Dhulipudi Pandit on Friday.
Jawaharlal University of Nehru Union President Aishe Ghosh and Secretary with MD Denmark asked Pandit and had a “detailed discussion” about various problems, the body said in a statement.

“The President and Secretary Jnusu met VC with detailed memorandum that highlights the issue of offline classes, GSCash, infrastructure problems throughout the campus, health centers, deprivation points, cells of the same opportunity, cuet, NEP, and other problems of community students,” statements released by the body.
The meeting came a few days after the Pandit was appointed as the first female Chancellor from Jawaharlal University Nehru.
In a 15-point memorandum, Jnusu shows that “there is no right arrangement” has been made regarding the start of the offline class, even though it was released in circular in this matter.
They also highlighted that “there was also a large infrastructure crisis” at the University because there was not enough classrooms to accommodate students following physical-purified norms during the current pandemic period.
“Although, the university has released a circle stating that offline classes can be continued but at universities, there are no proper settings made in this matter.
“BA students from batch 2020 and all students from batch 2021 have not been called to the university and allocating hostels,” read memorandum.
It also said, “Most of the hostels on campus are in a very dilapidated state.
With a constant leak, falling ceilings, to mention some.
The university must begin the overall tour and maintenance of all hostels and schools.”
By asserting that JNU has faced a large number of problems over the past few years, Jnusu noted that Covid-19, subsequent locking and online education modes have “come as further blows on student academics”.
Student clothing also raised the problem of “big delays” in disbursement of fellowship and scholarship, and noted that the situation was further exacerbated during a pandemic when many families had also lost income too.
Accused that ” gender sensitization committee against sexual abuse (GSCASH) arbitrarily replaced ” with ICC in 2017, Jnuu claimed that the campus had seen a worrying increase in cases of sexual harassment and stalking with the perpetrators had full impunity.
Union members also explained that students and university teachers have been in recent years “punished and criminalized for voicing their opinions”.
Union students expressed hope that Chancellor will see a problem with “fully urgency” and will take steps to ensure the right university function.
Jnusu said the Chancellor representative assured that the delivered memorandum would respond again through his office with a detailed understanding in a month after seeing the status of each problem.
“We are informed that VC, in full capacity, is willing to solve the concerns of students in dialogue with students and also try to take advice from all types of community communities,” Jnusu said.
Jnusu was locked in a wagging with the predecessor of Pandit M Jagadesh Kumar on several problems ranging from the increase in costs to union uninvited to the academic council meeting.
Kumar was appointed as head of the UGC last week.
