NOIDA: Police have recovered a cache of a little over 13kg of gold in biscuits and cash worth Rs 57 lakh from six men who had allegedly stolen the valuables from the flat of a law firm owner.
No written complaint had been lodged in connection with the theft at Silver City society in Delta 1 in September last year.
Sources said the flat owner avoided filing a written complaint as he thought the worth of the valuables stolen would attract the attention of the income tax department.
Police estimate the total gold that may have been stolen from the flat could be around 40kg and the cash about Rs.
6.5 crore.
The exact amount will be known only after an investigation, an officer said.
“Two of the thieves — Rajan Bhati and Arun alias Chhatri — were arrested from near Som Bazaar cut on Friday.
They told us that eight of their accomplices had stolen a huge cache of gold biscuits and cash from a flat in Silver City society of Greater Noida,” DCP (Noida) Rajesh S said.
Four of the other accused, Jai Singh, Neeraj, Anil and Bintu Sharma, were arrested subsequently and a portion of the valuables recovered from them.
The flat where the theft had taken place belongs to Rammani Pandey and his son Kislay Pandey, the owner of the law firm, Managium Juris.
The family is from Allahabad.
“We tried to contact Rammani Pandey and his son Kislay, who identifies himself as a Supreme Court lawyer and owns a law firm called Managium Juris.
He said he was speaking from Philadelphia and asked why the police were carrying out a legal process since he did not know anything about the case.
He has at least three cases of forgery and extortion lodged against him in Delhi and Gurgaon,” he said.
The police said they would inform the income tax department and enforcement directorate about the recovery.
Contacted, Kislay denied the flat at Silver City belonged to him.
