NEW DELHI: The government will be actively participated in Dominica to find ancient deportation of fugitive diamond retailer Mehul Choksi along with also his handover to Indiathe ministry of external affairs said on Thursday.
A Dominican magistrate court adjourned until June 25 that the hearing to alleged illegal entrance of Choki to the Caribbean island country, local press there’d reported this week.
Asked about Choksi in an internet press briefing, ministry of external affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi stated that he has been in the custody of government from the commonwealth of both Dominica and legal proceedings are still underway.
“Government of India is actively participated in the Dominican authorities to find the ancient deportation and handover to India of Mehul Choksi to face justice in the nation,” he explained.
“The criminal charges which Mehul Choksi confronts in India along with the facts concerning his continuing citizenship have been appropriately brought to the attention of the government from the commonwealth of Dominica,” that the MEA spokesperson stated.
On Mondaythe magistrate court was supposed to begin hearing the event of Choksi’s”illegal entry” to the nation on May 23 but he had been a”no show”, a press site Natureislenews’d reported.
Choksi along with also his nephew Nirav Modi had fled India in the first week of January, 2018, weeks prior to the scam at the Punjab National Bank rocked the Indian banking market.
Nirav Modi escaped Europe and was held in London in which he’s contesting his extradition to India, while Choksi took citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda at 2017 where he had been staying because his escape out of Delhi.
Choksi, 62, had inexplicably gone missing on May 23 in Antigua and Barbuda.
He had been arrested in Arabian island nation Dominica on May 23 for illegal entry following a potential romantic escapade together with his estranged girlfriend.
His attorneys alleged he was kidnapped by Jolly Harbour from Antigua by policemen appearing like Antiguans along with Indians and attracted to Dominica to a ship.
