NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday sought a change of Seat Because of the hearing of her Request challenging the Success of BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari out of Nandigram.
Mamata’s request, filed in Calcutta high court was delegated to Justice Kausik Chanda and was adjourned until June 24.
In a letter to the secretary of the acting Chief Justice, the principal minister’s counselor expressed apprehension regarding the Probability of prejudice on the part of the judge worried because Mamata”had flocked into the affirmation of the Hon’ble Judge as a powerful Judge of the Hon’ble High Court in Calcutta.” Assuming that Mamata Banerjee was made aware that Justice Kausik Chanda has been”an energetic part of the BJP” and because the adjudication of this election request will have political consequences, it’s been hypothesized the issue be delegated to some other judge from the acting Chief Justice, who’s the master of rosterthe letter said.
Mamata’s counsel urged the correspondence be put prior to the acting Chief Justice forthwith”for essential re-assignment of Election Petition in order to prevent any bias and/or presumption of bias”.
A part of lawyers staged a demonstration before the large court over Justice Chanda being delegated to listen to the election request from the Trinamool Congress supremo.
“We don’t have any private ill-feeling or allegation from the judge, however, he had been associated with a specific political party,” among the attorneys said.
The judge must recuse himself from hearing Banerjee’s request, he further added.
