VALSAD: Authorities have detained a 23-year-old resident of Gujarat’s Valsad district by Madhya Pradesh below the newly-notified Gujarat legislation that penalises forcible or deceptive religious transformation during union, an official said on Sunday.
The accused, Imran Ansari, supposedly kidnapped a 19-year-old girl from his neighborhood in Vapi town of Valsad with the intent of devoting her later forcing her to convert her faith, he explained.
He had been held on Sunday underneath the Gujarat Freedom of Religion (Amendment) Act-2021, that came in force on June 15 lays down strict punishment for forcible conversion during union.
The accused was also reserved under Indian Penal Code Sections 366 (kidnapping, abducting or causing girl to drive her for union ), 376 (2) (rape), and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation), Vapi city police station’s Agency B Sarvaiya stated.
The girl’s mother filed a missing person’s complaint on June 10, after which police crews started a stunt and zeroed-in about the accused,” he explained.
