CHENNAI: The storage amount from the Poondi reservoir, among those five providing Chennai town, is gradually going up because the coming of Krishna water in nearby Andhra Pradesh a couple of days back.
PWD officials state water in AP in the speed of 420 cusecs (cubic feet per minute ) is flowing in the Poondi reservoir which about Sunday had 205 mcft (million cubic feet) contrary to the power of 3,231 mcft.
The PWD is currently releasing water in 150 cusecs in to Chembarambakkam and in 110 cusecs to Red Hills.
“If the stream of water out of Andhra Pradesh lasts for per month (until July 20), the Poondi reservoir may realise that a total of 1.5 tmcft (thousand million cubic feet), ” said a senior PWD official.
The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Supply (CMWSSB), popular as Metrowater, is continued to provide 850 million litres of water per day (MLD) into the town’s inhabitants.
The storage at the five reservoirs along with the Veeranam tank at Cuddalore district has been on Sunday 5,332 mcft, 4,102 mcft longer the amount listed on this day this past year.
Water drawn from Veeranam lake, that has been 176 MLD during the corresponding period this past year, has decreased to 82 MLD, stated a Metrowater official.
However, it’s predicted to go up shortly as the ongoing southwest monsoon raises the amount at the Mettur and water has been discharged in the Veeranam lake,” said the officer.
The Metrowater official stated that on Sundaythe amount from the Cholavaram reservoir was 588 mcft contrary to the capability of 1,081 mcft; in Red Hills it had been 2,655 mcft contrary to the ability of 3,300 mcft; in Kannankottai Thervoykandigai it had been 420 mcft contrary to the capability of 500 mcft; also in Chembarambakkam it had been 2,695 mcft contrary to the power of 3,645 mcft.
