BERHAMPUR: The state government has decided to construct 55 more multi-purpose cyclone centres in seven vulnerable districts, including six in Ganjam, with an investment of more than Rs 126.88 crore from the chief minister’s relief fund.
The other districts where the shelters will be built are four each in Puri and Cuttack, Jajpur (11), Kendrapada (19), Balasore (9) and Bhadrak (2).
After the chief minister Naveen Patnaik approved the construction of these cyclone centres, state-owned Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) wrote to the district collectors concerned to ensure the speedy selection and demarcation of the sites so that work could be started soon.
Officials said the rural works department has been entrusted with the execution of the work, while the tender process is under way.
In Ganjam, the OSDMA has identified Laxmipur and Gudisara in Sheragada block, Giria Narayanpur and Chanduli in Hinjili block and Anantraipur and Dankalpadu in Chikiti block for the construction of the cyclone shelters.
Around Rs 8.49-crore would be invested for the purpose, the officials said.
