Chennai: The Chairman of the Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin has written to the Minister of Health Union, Harsh Vardhan urged him to reduce the vaccine allocation to the private sector from 25% to 10%.
Stalin quoted non-utilization of vaccines in the private sector.
In a three-page letter, Stalin said the allocation was 25% higher when compared to the actual vaccination carried out by the private sector.
In Tamil Nadu, 1.43 doses of crore have been actually used where private hospitals only use 6.5 lakh doses, which translates to only 4.5%.
Even in the current month, out of 43.5 doses of lakh given in the state, private institutions have contributed only 4.5 doses of 4.5 lakh, which is only 10%, he said.

Stalin suggested that the Union Government increase the price of the procurement of vaccines to ensure that producers are not depressed on the reduction in the private sector quota.
The need to provide incentives to producers by allowing them to sell some vaccines at a relatively better price should not damage the direct goals to vaccinate our people with the maximum possible speed, he said.
This can be achieved by increasing vaccine allocation to conduct government hospitals.
At the same time, it can also be ensured that vaccine producers are not affected by reducing shares to private hospitals if the price of the procurement of the union government increases.
This will ensure the mixed price under the new policy is the same as the current, he said.
He also urged the minister to evaluate vaccine doses allocated for various countries in terms of doses all thousand populations and ensure that the required compensation allocation is made to state a lower number of per capita doses.
Previously, the minister’s chairman had written to the center who was looking for a one-dose allocation of crore to improve inadequate allotment in the past.
