Hazaribag: Barkagaon Mla Amba Prasad on Sunday came out to support 19 villagers from Uruv under the coal mining project Pakri Barwadih who was arrested on Saturday and was taken to the Hazaribag Judge Court.
However, the court refused to give them guarantees and send them to prison.
He also briefly protested on the bus where the villagers were brought to court.
Calling illegal’s arrest, Amba said that the villagers were peacefully nervous in Triveni Sainik Company, the main outsourcing company hired by NTPC, for mining work.
He said, “The worker was nervous since Saturday morning demanding the fulfillment of their various demands, including bonus payments.
These workers have presented a notification to the company three months ago but did not find alternatives to sit in Dharna and prevent other village workers from serving.
They were nervous with Following the Covid-19 protocol.
“Police said cases under various parts were submitted at the Barkagaon police station due to violations of Covid-19 rules.
MLA said that he would take this matter with the main minister.
Deputy Commissioner Aditya Kumar Anand said that the workers were arrested only after they pelted stones at police personnel.
DC said the judge along with the police reached the place and told the agitators that their complaints would be seen by the company.
“We also convinced them to leave the place because we would take a problem with the company.
But they did not listen and throw stones,” he said.
He added that officials also met with Barkagaon Mla on Sunday and convinced him to carry out the right investigation.
“Agitation affects the NTPC coal mining operation,” he said.
In another incident, around 50 residents of Daihar Village and other Hamlet Gheraoed the residence of the MLA Congress from Barhi, Umashankar Akela, in Chouparan on Sunday and locked the gate which demanded the fulfillment of his promise to provide land to farmers.
Sdpo Barhi Nazir Akhtar said they rushed to MLA’s residence along with other officials to unlock the gate.
Deputy Commissioner said that villagers demanded a plot to be informed under the forest law as forest land.
“In accordance with the law, there is no forest land that can be given to any villagers or farmers to farm.
If they submit other plots other than those in the forest area, we will consider.”
