Tesla CEO and SpaceX Elon Musk has confirmed that Starlink – Satellite-based broadband services – will be available globally from August.
Speaking on a virtual event at Mobile World Congress, Musk said that Starlink’s internet coverage would be available – except for the North and South Pole – globally from August.
Where is Starlink currently available? Starlink Broadband Services, according to Musk, have operated in a test phase around 12 countries and more added every month.
There is no word on when services will be available in India but users in the US, Australia and several other countries have used Starlink Broadband Internet services.
How many users have Starlink now? Musk said that Starlink already had around 69,000 active customers.
“We are on our way to having several hundred thousand users, maybe more than 500,000 users in 12 months,” Musk said.
How do Starlink work? EXPLORATION COMPANIES Musk – SpaceX -mas launched around 1,800 low orbit satellites.
Because this is a low orbite satellite, they have shorter latency – which means the time needed by the signal to travel between satellites and the earth is lacking.
This is what makes Starlink a faster internet service provider.
More than that, it makes it easier for Starlink to provide internet services in remote areas where internet access has so far been very limited.
How does Starlink reach your home? Through partnerships.
SpaceX and Musk will work with large telecommunications operators throughout the world for a wider range.
Musk at the MWC event said that, “We have two partnerships that are quite significant with the operators of the great country that I want to change now, but obviously we delay our partners to make announcements.” He also said that SpaceX was in discussions with many other operators to provide Starlink access.
