New Delhi: The output of eight core sectors grew 16.8 percent in May, mainly due to low basic effects and uptick in natural gas production, refinery, steel, cement products, official data shown on Wednesday.
Eight coal infrastructure sectors, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilizers, steel, cement and electricity have been contracted by 21.4 percent in May 2020 due to locking restrictions imposed to control the spread of Covid-19 infection.
In March this year, these main sectors have recorded growth of 11.4 percent, and 60.9 percent in April.
According to trade data and the Ministry of Industry, natural gas production, refinery, steel products, cement and electricity surged by 20.1 percent, 15.3 percent, 59.3 percent, 7.9 percent and 7.3 percent in May, as against (-) 16.8 percent, (-) 21.3 percent, (-) 40.4 percent, (-) 21.4 percent and (-) 14.8 percent on May 2020.
Coal output also rose 6.9 Percent during this month was reviewed as 14 percent negative growth in the same month the previous year.
The fertilizer and crude oil segment recorded negative growth during the month of review.
During April-May this fiscal, eight sectors grew by 35.8 percent compared to negative growth of 29.4 percent in the same period last year.
