Indore: Delta variant may be responsible for almost all Covid infections in Madhya Pradesh in June.
That is the indication of a genome sequencing report where each sample sent from MP last month was found to have delta – mutations that cause worries throughout the world now.
The Delta section in the sample tested from MP rose from 57% in April to 69% in May and a 100% defeat in June, showed a report from the National Disease Control Center (NCDC).
The Alpha variant (B.1.1.7) is dominant in MP until March.
But since then, Delta has been the biggest factor behind a surge in Covid infection in Madhya Pradesh.
Of the 1,332 MP reports have received from NCDC, 458 (34%) found delta, the report said.
“Delta is the dominant variant in the state for the past three months and Delta-Plus has been detected in only eight cases in MP,” said the Akash Tripathi Health Commissioner.
“We have sent around 2,000 samples to NCDC from the country so far for genome sequencing, based on certain parameters that include severe infections, post-vaccination infections, past long hospitals and comorbid infections,” Tripathi added.
Asked what was done to track this new variant, Tripathi said: “We send around 300 samples per month from all states to NCDC for gene sorting for better supervision.”
