Washington: US President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, plans to travel on Thursday to Surfside, Florida, a deadly condominium collapse site, to offer condolences to families killed and lost when victims of victims climb.
Biden, whose personal experience with tragedy has become a characteristic of his political career, will repeat the role of “consolers-in-chief” while the rescue team searches for victims in his debris a week ago as a resident of sleep.
The death toll confirmed rose to 18 on Wednesday with the discovery of six bodies at the South Condo Champlain Towers ruins, including the remnants of two children, aged 4 and 10 years, said Mayor Miami-Dade Daniella Levine Cava.
145 other people were lost and afraid of being trapped in debris.
No one was withdrawn alive from concrete powder mounds, broken wood and bent metal since early disaster in the Seaside Surfside City, adjacent to Miami Beach.
Authorities have extended hopes that more survivors can be found, but the prospect has grown dimmers per hour.
Thursday’s trip marked the second time since Biden became president that he had visited the disaster.
In February, he traveled to Texas after a strong winter storm left millions of people without power or clean water for days and killed several people.
Biden delayed his visit to Florida to avoid disrupting rescue efforts.
He has issued an emergency declaration and provides state and local officials with the help of federal to help respond to collapse.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the US Army Engineer Corps have mobilized a team to help with search and rescue, incident management and eliminate debris.
Fema also coordinates with state and local officials to open a family aid center and provide communication support.
Biden, a Democrat, is likely to appear next to the Governor of the Republic of Florida Ron Desantis, seen as a potential top-tier candidate to challenge Biden’s re-election in three years.
Desantis has increased to power in Florida’s politics and built a brand as a sharp partisan soldier, often challenging Biden on issues such as Pandemics and Immigration Covid-19.
Biden plans to use the visit to express my gratitude to “Heroic respondents, search teams and rescuers, and everyone who has worked tirelessly all the time,” said the Secretary of the White Jen PSAKI.
The President and First Lady will also “meet with families who are forced to bear this terrible tragedy,” added PSAKI.
Biden’s gift to connect his own difficulties with the sadness and sadness of others has become a feature defining his personality, after experiencing his first wife’s death, a daughter and a son for years in public life.
The governor and the president spoke by telephone last week, and after that Desantis praised Biden for his support.
Investigators have not concluded what caused almost half of the 40-year-old condo complex to be destroyed in one of the deadliest buildings that collapsed in US history.
But the 2018 report prepared by the Morabito consultant engineering company ahead of the construction safety certification process found structural deficiency in the 12th floor complex, 136 units which are now the focus of the question.
The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that the majority of the Surfside Condominium Council, including his president, was downloaded in 2019, part of the frustration of what was seen as a slow response to reports that identified the previous year’s main structural damage.
