Spielberg: The Red Bull World Championship leader Max Verstappen will begin on the pole for the Austrian Grand Prix after dimming Lando Norris for McLaren on Saturday.
The third pole Verstappen consecutive placed him in a strong position to stretch his lead above Lewis Hamilton in the ninth race of the week from the Formula One season.
“Hopefully we can finish him tomorrow,” said the 23-year-old player, who cheered with a sea of Dutch fans on the first Grand Prix weekend to welcome the crowd of capacity since the beginning of the Pandemic Coronavirus.
Dutch driver’s teammate Sergio Perez will start in the second row with Mercedes Hamilton at the Red Bull Spielberg Circuit.
Verstappen filled the time sheet in Q1 and Q2, and then nailed the main seat in the grid with a flying lap 1 minute 03.720sec in Q3.
Norris only denied his inaugural pole with 0.048sec, the performance of a 21-year-old British driver who was talented was the latest sign of his team’s revival.
“I feel epic, it’s cool! It might be one of the best rounds I have done, it puts us in a good position for tomorrow,” Lando said.
