Covid-19: Doctor’s attention to liver damage related to Giloy

Mumbai: Proving a certain concoction and traditional medicines taken to ward off Covid-19 can cause severe danger, Doctor Mumbai found at least six patients with severe liver damage between September and December 2020.
These patients came with complaints of jaundice And lethargy, after that doctors found each of them having a history of taking the concoction of the Cordifolia Tinospora concoction, locally known as ‘Giloy’ in Hindi or ‘Guduchi’ in Sanskrit.
A 62-year-old woman died four months after she rushed to the hospital with accumulated liquid in her stomach – a sign of liver failure.
“We, for the first time, found a severe heart injury, proved to use a biopsy, related to Cordifolia Tinospora concoctions,” said Hepatologist Dr.
Aabha Nagral, the main author of a study published in the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology, international peer-reviewed journal published by the Indian National Association for the study of liver.
The liver transplant surgeon Dr.
A S Soin, who was not connected to the study, said he had also seen five cases of liver damage related to Giloy.
One of his patients also died.
“Many have taken Giloy during a pandemic to increase their immunity and as an antioxidant.
Unfortunately, many suffer from liver toxicity because of that,” he said.
Except for death, another patient restores full recovery a few months after stopping the concoction.
Giloy was one of several alternative drugs recommended by the Ayush Ministry as an immune booster against SARS-COV-2 which caused Covid-19.
