MILAN: Italian police prevented 52 fans attending the Euro 2020 quarter-final match between England and Ukraine in Rome on Saturday because they did not comply with Covid restrictions, a statement said on Sunday.
In an effort to prevent the spread of a very contagious Delta Coronavirus variant, Roma last month introduced five-day quarantine for anyone who came to Italy who had been to England in the previous two weeks.
By crossing the name of the tourist traveler from England and Ukraine with those who have bought tickets, Italian police identified 52 fans who did not meet the required quarantine time.
These fans also have their tickets canceled, Italian police said in a statement.
Last week Italy told fans from England not to try to use a gap in the limitation of Covid’s trip to sneak into the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 clashes between Britain and Ukraine in Rome, even if they had tickets.
England beat Ukraine 4-0 on Saturday, put the team on track for the first European Championship semifinals in 25 years.
