The state on Saturday starts vaccination for pregnant women following the central nod to drive.
“The boost of vaccination targeting pregnant women may have begun for the first time in the country in Pennadam in Cuddalore Regency,” said Minister of Health MA Subramanian told reporters after the formal drive launch on Saturday morning.
In reports lacking vaccines in Coimbatore and Erode, the minister said the shortcomings were not limited to only two regions but were prevalent throughout the last TN.
“Our vaccine quota for June 42 lakh.
We gave vaccines quickly and the union government gave us five additional lakh doses.
Our quota for July was 71 lakh.
There was a delay in supply between June last week and the first week which led to lack of two or three days.
Now supply has been continued, and we have started sending vaccines to all parts of the country, “he said.
For a query, the minister said the country did not report Covid’s death and stated that there was no need to do it.
He said there should be no third wave, but the state has made all preparations if there is.
The minister said that the Covid-19 victim death certificate did not have mention of the cause of death but added that if the relatives needed could obtain a separate certificate that mentioned the cause of death.
“Death certificates have never mentioned the cause of death.
It is not in practice,” he said.
He said the public health authorities had provided 1.5 crore doses of vaccines until Friday night.
He said the head of Minister M K Stalin directed officials not to reduce the number of RPCR tests even if the incidence of infection was reduced.
