Chennai: After recording more than 4,000 new Covid-19 cases for six consecutive days, the number was dipped on Sunday because the country recorded 3,867 fresh infections, taking the total number of positive cases recorded in the state as far as 24,96,287.
The country recorded 72 deaths on Sunday, 33 less than Saturday.
So far, 33,005 deaths from Covid-19 have been recorded in the state.
According to the official government bulletin, Coimbatore recorded the highest number of cases – 445, followed by Erode, which recorded 349 cases.
72 Died patients including a 29-year-old man from Tirupur who was hospitalized with complaints of fever and difficulty breathing a week ago.
Fifteen of them do not have komorbodities.
The maximum number of deaths is recorded in Thanjavur (8), followed by Salem (7).
Coimbatore and Trichy recorded six deaths respectively.
At least 15 districts record zero death.
In the central area, daily deaths descended eighth in Thanjavur on Sunday after recording daily death in two digits over the past three days.
Daily deaths in their respective districts are 23, 26 and 30 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
However, officials have clarified that dual death digits are caused by backlogs in recording death.
With 795 deaths so far, Thanjavur has recorded the second highest number of deaths in the region after Trichy where 924 people have died of Covid-19.
The number of active cases at this time, including those in isolation, is 35,294.
Chennai reported 222 cases on Sundays, while neighboring Tiruvallur (127), Chengalpet (184), and Kancheepuram (58) together reported 369 cases.
Until now, the capital has recorded 5,33,432 cases – 21.3% of the total positive cases in the state.
The death toll at Chennai on Sunday was 8,222.
Apart from Coimbatore and Erode, which records the maximum number of cases in the state, Tirupur (225) and Salem (245) in the Western region also recorded more cases.
Erode has a maximum number of active cases in the country – 4,227, followed by coimbatore which has 2,851 active cases.
