Bhubaneswar: Although the land for the international airport proposed in Puri has not been completed, the state government on Sunday said the ambitious project is likely to be assigned in the next two years.
“If everything goes according to plan, flight operations to and from the castle can begin in 2022 or 2023.
The land will be resolved immediately after the identification process has begun.
The government will not leave the stone missed to track the project quickly,” Minister of Trade State Padmanabh Behera told the media people here.
On June 17, officials from the Indian Airport Authority (AAI) held a pre-eligibility study in Puri.
They checked 1,000 hectares, about 5 km from Jagannath Temple, for the construction of the proposed airport.
The proposed land, which is owned and acquired by the state government, near the Girala River and Mangala under Sipasarubali Mouza, does not have any encroachment is also not entangled in legal disputes.
Puri District Administration said the proposed site would not violate the zone norm of coastal regulations (CRZ) because the land was located more than 500 meters from the coast.
“We are waiting for AAI reports about their feasibility surveys recently.
They check our data on the size of the soil (the site proposed), topography, access to the ground, wind direction, rainfall, airport orientation, economic feasibility, environmental constraints and Crz, if any, “a senior trade official and the transportation department said.
