Washington: The United States is getting closer to overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic, President Joe Biden said on the occasion of the 245th Independence Day.
“Today, we are closer than before to declare our independence from the deadly virus,” said Biden in a speech at the White House.
First respondents, military members, and other guests were there, as reported by Kyodo News.
“We have gained excellence against this virus,” he said, adding that “don’t misunderstand: Covid-19 hasn’t been defeated.
We all know a strong variant appears, like a Delta variant.” When Biden’s administration has increased the efforts of Covid-19 vaccination throughout the country, previously announced to inoculate 70 percent of adults with at least one shot in July 4.
The number of new cases and deaths has dropped dramatically after Biden takes command January.
But still, 200 people die every day less than half of the total population have been fully vaccinated, according to the Center for Control and Prevention of the disease.
The US has so far reported 33,717,574 cases and 605,526 deaths, according to CNN Health.
