Colombo: Sri Lanka on Monday received the first batch of Vakizer Pfizer Covid-19, became the first country in South Asia to make the US make Covid-19 Jab.
Officials said the 26,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine were directly purchased by the Sri Lankan government was flown to the country on Monday.
The health authority said that Sri Lanka had signed an agreement to buy five million doses of this year’s Pfizer vaccine.
This country is expected to receive around 200,000 doses of this month’s Pfizer vaccine.
President Sri Lanka Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in a Tweet said “Sri Lanka became the first country in South Asia to obtain a Pfizer vaccine contingent.” Minister of State Production, Supply, and Pharmaceutical Regulations Channa Jayasumana said the Pfizer vaccine would be stored in a special facility developed by the government as a vaccine needs to be maintained at -70 ° C.
Health Authority Sri Lanka has so far used astrazeneca produced in India, Sputnik V Sinopharm and Russian China in the Battle of the State Against Covid-19.
