New Delhi: Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested two army personnel for allegedly spying and giving confidential documents to Pakistani Inter-Services Intelligence.
Dinkar Gupta, Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab informed that the personnel arrested had been identified as Sepoy Harpreet Singh and Sepoy Singh who were 23 years old.
“Those who were arrested were identified as Sepoy Harpreet Singh (23), who came from Cheecha Village in Amritsar and posted in AnanNnag.
He joined the Indian Army in 2017 and belonged to 19 Rashtriya Rifles.
Sepoy Gurbhej Singh (23), a native village Even in Tarn Taran, including 18 Sikh Light Infantry and worked as officers in Cargil.
He joined the Indian army in 2015, “DGP said.
Sharing further detail, Gupta said that rural police Jalandhar, while investigating narcotics cases and psychotropic substances (NDPS), recovering confidential documents and secrets related to the function and dissemination of Indian soldiers from drug smugglers cross-border ranvir singh, who was arrested with 70 grams of heroin On May 24, 2021.
Ranvir, during the interrogation, revealed that he received a document from Sepoy Harpreet Singh, who was his friend, because they belonged to the same village.
“Ranvir motivated and lured the sepoy Harpreet Singh with financial benefits to share defense-related secret documents, after the latter inducing his friend Sepoy Gurbhej in such anti-national spy activities,” Gupta said.
“Because Gurbyj worked as officers at 121 infantry brigade headquarters in Cargil, he could get easy access to these confidential documents which contained strategic and tactical information relating to the Indian army,” he added.
Gupta further told that the accused army personnel had shared more than 900 secret documents related to national defense and national security to Ranvir Singh for 4 months between February and 2021.
Ranvir had passed them to Pakistan intelligence officers.
DGP revealed that ranvir was further used to send secret documents to the operative contents of Pakistan directly or through GOPI, which has been identified as the main drug smugglers from Daue Village in Amritsar.
Gopi is thought to have a relationship with Pakistani-based drug smuggling syndicates and contents of officials, who always work together with each other.
“Following Ranvir’s disclosure, the police also arrested Gopi, who had claimed to have a secret document that was transferred to Pakistani-based drug smugglers, one of which was identified as Kothar and the alleged operative of Pakistani contents identified as a substitute for the supply of heroin and financial benefits,” Gupta said.
According to the initial investigation, DGP said that Harpreet Singh and Gurbhej Singh received monetary persuasions to share confidential information.
“Ranvir Singh gave money to Harpreet Singh, which was further used to transfer it to a Gurbhej account,” Gupta added.
Superintenden Senior Police (SSP) Rural Police Jalandhar, Naveen Singla said, “The army authorities have handed over the two army personnel accused of Jalandhar’s rural police and further investigation are being carried out to ensure the involvement of other accused people.”
