Yavatmal: After a young man died in police custody on Tuesday night, a situation in the city of Darwha, about 45 km from Yavatmal, tense but controlled, police said.
An angry mob had pelted stones at the police station after hearing the news of death.
They also damaged several private vehicles and police parked outside the police station.
Sources said three young men had been involved in verbal duel, after that there was a fight in the train station area around 8pm.
The police reached the place and rounded up three young men, and took them to the Darwha police station.
The police allegedly struggled by the youth mercilessly, and one of them collapsed.
The police took him to the government rural hospital, where the doctors watched him stated he was ‘taken dead’.
The name of the deceased is Sheikh Irfan Sheikh Shabbir (27), a resident of the train station.
The other two were Sheikh and Amir Sheikh, the two residents of the Bhujbal train station, who sent additional police forces to the city and the tense situation was controlled.

Dilip Patil himself rushed to the city at night itself and oversees this problem.
Patil confirmed the death of the young man in detention and said the investigation was handed over to CID.
Meanwhile, the body was handed over to Kin next after postmortem on Wednesday.
“We are now busy maintaining legal and order situations, because the deceased’s funeral is underway,” said Patil.
Some police officers were also injured in throwing stones, he added.
