New Delhi: The Deadly SARS-COV-2 Coronavirus continues to outsmart science and experts with more transmitting variants.
In the midst of increasing Delta cases plus variants in India, the state now reported two cases of Kappa variants from Covid-19.
After the genome sequencing of 109 virus samples finished in Lucknow’s King George’s Medical College in Uttar Pradesh, it was found that 107 samples were Delta Plus variants, while two of the Kappa variants.
Here all you need to know about Kappa variants – What is the Kappa variant? The Kappa variant, also known as B.1.617.1, is a variation of double mutants because it has a mutation of E484Q and L453R.
This is not a new variant of Coronavirus, according to experts, there are for a while.
When did the Kappa variant first appear? The Kappa variant was first detected in India in October 2020 and was considered a ‘interesting variant’ by the World Health Organization (WHO), which was not like the Delta variant responsible for the second wave of infection in India, as it was considered a ‘variant of concern’.
Because of worries? The Kappa variant of Covid-19 found in Uttar Pradesh is not a reason to worry according to the authorities, because the mutations and variations are expected from the virus.
According to the additional head secretary (health), Amit Mohan Prasad, there is nothing to worry about because this is only a variant of the virus and treatment possible.
Is the vaccine effective against the Kappa variant? Because the Kappa variant has a L453R mutation, it is recommended that it might escape the immune response because research is still done on mutations and no concrete data available.
However, the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) stated that Covaxin Bharat Biotech was effective against the Kappa variant.
The University of Oxford also examined in June, stating that Covishield also protected against Kappa variants.
In essence, however, it still remains that someone needs to continue practicing the appropriate behavior of Covid (covering and cleaning) when stepping out and vaccinated on the first opportunity provided.
These are the best preventive steps on all Covid-19 variants today.
