Bhubaneswar: To provide the best class facilities to passengers and enhance their travel experience, the Puri train station will be rebuilt to a world-class transit hub.
This will be built with the estimated cost of RS 82 Crore on the design, build, financing, operating, transfer model.
Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), legal authority under the train Ministry for the development of railroad land, has invited offers for this increase and rebuilding stations covering 28,574 square meters.
It will also develop the land around it.
The station will be developed as a multimodal transit hub that has entered and exit, luggage security, check-in area, information center or inquiry center and art gallery.
This will be accessed by people with disabilities.
In addition, this will also have a green building feature with a sustainable design and energy saving, the maximum use of natural light and ventilation, rainwater harvest, solar energy generation.
Pre-bidding meetings for this project are scheduled for July 15 and deadlines for submission of offers is August 17.
Puri Railway Station, which is under the Non-Suburban Grade 2 category, is one of the busiest stations of the East Coast train.
It has eight platforms that handle 52 trains every day.
“Development of the Puri Station will increase the prospect of tourism and position it among the main objectives for religious tourism,” said Ved Parkash Dudeja, Deputy Chairperson of RLDA.
RLDA is mandated with the rebuilding of the train station and is currently working on 60 train stations in stages while its subsidiaries, Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC), have taken 62 other train stations throughout the country.
