Thiruvananthapuram: Although 14 of the 15 people infected with the Zika virus in the district have recovered from symptoms, the presence of infective vectors in the community is the main public health problem.
Navjot Khosa District collector held a high-level meeting on Saturday to review the situation in the district where medical officers and district officials were responsible for supervision and infectious diseases attended.
In the meeting, the district health administration observed that patients had recovered from symptoms and therefore they would not transmit the disease.
However, the presence of infective vectors in the community is the main health problem.
Although this is not a severe disease in the general population, it becomes a concern if it infects pregnant women in their early trimester, the meeting shows.
The District Disaster Management Authority has decided that the focus must be given to vector management and care must be given to prevent transmission of infection in pregnant women.
The action to control mosquito breeding in the room and in the peridomestic area is the only way to contain the spread of infection in the community.
The district collector has urged the Ministry of Health to ensure that the District Department of Health’s District Alerting Committee unit conducts vector supervising in the Corporation Thiruvananthapuram area and provides a technical advisor to the regional government for mosquito control activities.
In addition, Fever Clinics must begin and be strengthened in all peripheral institutions.
Steps must be taken to provide awareness about the steps of personal protection against mosquito bites in antenatal clinic.
The District Supervision Officer and the National Health Mission Manager Mission must ensure that the awareness of Zika’s detention was delivered to urban medical officers and Asha workers.
The steps must be taken to ensure strict blood donors with a history of fever in the previous two weeks.
All ultra scanning centers have been directed to report microcephal incidents (a condition in which the baby’s head is significantly smaller than expected) during ordinary antenatal scanning.
All local bodies in the district have been asked to start mosquito control activities in public places and uninhabited areas.
City health services will fogging and spraying according to the technical direction.
The Environmental Level Health Sanitation Committee (WHSC) has been entrusted with the task of reducing the source of mosquito activity.
Members of the Environmental Level Health Sanitation must take steps to examine residential / public and private offices for mosquito breeding.
Once in a week, all houses, including flats, must be visited and the direction to eliminate the source must be given.
A follow-up visit after two days must be made to ensure that they have fulfilled the instructions, collectors have said in the order.
