Panaji: Microbiology and expert on wild mushrooms, Nandakumar Kamat has asked the State Forest Department to declare HEIMII Termitasik as a wild mushroom of the country of Goa.
This species is one of the most exploited and there is a need to save it, Kamat said.
Mushrooms are picked from termite mounds in the forest area, meadow, plateaus and hillside in Goa and Karnataka.
“If termites are revoked from mushrooms, they will starve and die.
It will release a new virus from insect carrier and forest biotic structure and our grasslands will collapse when the mountains of the dead plant material will suffocate them.
If this dry plant material remains not composed, The forest will be susceptible to forest fires and turn into abu mound, “Kamat said.
