Aizawl: The Mizoram government does not want to be the first to blow in border problems with Assam, but is ready to take any action to protect the territory of the country at all costs, said Interior Minister Lalchamliana on Monday.
Overcoming a press conference in Aizawl, Lalchamliana said that the state government strongly condemned the acts of updated violence “by attack to Mizoram’s land recently.
“Assam official entered Mizoram and created a disaster in Chalchhunga’s land in Hamarilet Barkep last week by damaging the plants,” he said.
“The destruction of individual properties by Assam officials is illegal and we demand that the Assam government must pay adequate compensation to land owners and plants,” he said, adding that the state government would also pursue this problem.
The Minister of Home Affairs said that a large number of state police personnel were sent to the border area to protect the territory of the country also to maintain the lives and properties of the people living in the Mizoram-Assam border area.
More troops will be sent if the situation is needed, he said, adding that the requirements of police personnel are being taken care of and the state government will do all the power to provide police needs.
He asked people to bear with the government, if there was a problem arising because of tension in the border area with Assam.
He appealed to political parties and other organizations in the country not to pamper themselves in the blamed games or take mileage from border disputes, but still united in this issue.
Mizoram shared more than 160 kilometers of long borders with Assam and border disputes continued to simmer during the district council years, when Mizoram was the Union region and also after becoming a full state, he said.
“The tension in the border area has been witnessed several times where the Assam government is an aggressor on every occasion by sending its officials including police personnel,” he added.
Lalchamliana was accompanied by Minister of School Education Lalchhandama Ralte, Information and Minister of Public Relations Lalruatkima, legislator Border Border Serlui Constitution Lalrinranga Ralte, home secretary Lalbiakedi and acting DGP John Nihlaia at the conference.
