New Delhi: Full of India from Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine must be postponed until Russian producers provide the same amount of two different doses, said Dr.
Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd.
said on Monday.
Reddy has received around 3 million first doses on June 1 and around 360,000 second doses earlier this month, the company and the government have said.
“As a matter of responsibility, we do not want to announce the full commercial launch until we have an equal number (from the second dose),” said Dr.
Reddy in an email to Reuters.
Reddy’s, who originally planned a full launch in mid-June, currently runs a pilot program where more than 195,000 doses have been given in hospitals throughout the country.
“This is our commitment to ensure the supply of components 2 in the same amount and on time for all partner hospitals to whom we have supplied doses 1,” said the company, refused to share further detail from its financial results.
India has approved a 21-day gap between two doses.
Russian direct investment funds, which market vaccines abroad, do not immediately respond to a request for comments.
The government expects 100 million vutik v doses that are produced locally and imported to be available in the country between August and December.
India is expected to be one of the biggest manufacturing hubs of the vaccine.
India has provided more than 375 million doses of vaccines, the world’s most after China, is inoculating 32% of the estimated 944 million adults with at least one dose.
This mainly relied on AstraZeneca (azn.l) and one was developed at home by Bharat Biotech and the Indian medical research board managed by the state.
Daily vaccination reached a national record of 9.2 million doses on June 21 but has dropped to around 4 million per day.
