Mumbai: The Special CBI Court here has provided guarantees to Dhanesh Sheth, A Senior Aide of Absconding Jeweler Mehul Choksi, in the alleged RS 13,000 Crore Scam at Punjab National Bank (PNB).
Guarantee was given by Judge V C Barde on Monday, but detailed orders were available on Tuesday.
Sheth was named the defendant in the additional cost sheet submitted by the Central Investigation Bureau in this case earlier this year.
He appeared on Monday – as directed by the court after consuming the accusation sheet – and applied to guarantee.
His lawyer Vijay Agarwal argues that there is no evidence of his client which is why he is not displayed as accused before, and even now the agency does not find evidence of it.
Sheth obeyed court calls and really appeared in front of him, the lawyer showed.
The General Prosecutor Limousin opposed the bail application, saying the alleged violation was “serious nature”.
He was not entitled to guarantee only because the CBI did not catch him before, the prosecutor said.
However, the court observed that the presence of accused people did not seem necessary for further investigation.
He was not accused of escaping or being damaged by evidence or threatening witnesses, it noted, giving Sheth bail.
Sheth is a Gili and Nakshtra brand director, part of the Gitanjali company group promoted by Choksi.
The group was accused of fraud more than Rs 7,080 Crore.
Choksi and nephew NIRAV Modi allegedly sucked a total of more than 13,000 crore rs of PNB, public sector bank, with cheating to obtain a business letter (BOO).
