NEW DELHI: The generation of state-generation NTPC’s renewable energy arm NTPC will establish the largest solar photovoltaic project in India in Rann Kutch in Khavada in Gujarat, the company said on Tuesday.
A company statement says NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC Rail) has received a nod of the renewable energy ministry to build a project with a capacity of up to 4750 MW.
NTPC Rail will produce green hydrogen on a commercial scale from the park.
The Surya Project is part of the parent’s plan to transform itself from the largest coal burner in the country to major in green energy.

The NTPC project will almost double the capacity of Surya Bhadla Park in Rajasthan, currently the largest local solar power project in the country.
NTPC has a building target of 60 gw (gigawatts) with a range of renewable energy in 2032.
The company now has 70 power plants with a total installed capacity of 66 gw and an additional capacity of 18 gw is being built.
NTPC has assigned the largest floating solar project in India from 10 MW in the reservoir at the SIMHADRI thermal power plant in Andhra Pradesh.
An additional 15 MW will be assigned in August.
Other solar projects floating with a capacity of 100 MW in the Ramagundam thermal plant reservoir are in a sophisticated implementation phase.
