Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to develop a smart parking lot in 38 locations with a pilot base due to exponential increases in the number of vehicles on the city road which causes traffic jams.
Commissioner of Himanshu City Sharma said a Haryana-based private company was chosen to carry out the work to be given in the next 2-3 days.
The Civic’s body expects a smart parking system driven by technology ready at the end of August.
Himanshu said the project was taken under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode to address conventional parking problems in Patna while providing an organized parking area.
“Smart parking facilities will be equipped with boom barriers with RFID sensors (radio frequency identification) to control the entry and vehicle exit, smart ticket system, closed circuit television camera (CCTV) to record vehicle models and pay automatically station,” he said.
Parking lots will be mixed with LED direction signage for better guides and other passenger facilities such as portable cabins, drinking water and toilets.
Charging facilities for e-vehicles will also be available, but only for vehicles parked there.
Commissioner PMC told the newspaper on Wednesday that the smart parking system would also include a special mobile application to help motorists check online parking slot availability.
“With the help of this application, residents will get real-time information about parking lots, available space, parking guides and make pre-bookings for the same thing to order their parking slots in advance.
There will also be an option to make payments online too, Apart from the smart card application and automatic payment station to make it convenient for people to park their vehicles when they visit market places or other areas, “Himanshu said.
According to Civic’s body officials, the right information about the parking lot will save residents from brokers, who collect parking fees from people on behalf of PMC.
Smart parking system will appear on the exhibition road, a boring canal road (from Hartali Mor to Rajapur Pul), near Mithapur Bus Stand, Pasar Patna, in front of Eco Park, Transport Nagar, close to Patna Women’s College, Sahdev Mahto Marg, close Dinkar’s roundabout, in front of Hanuman Mandir, near Mandir, Complex Maharaja, Complex Maurya Lok, three places in Kadamkuan and Rajendra robbing among other places.
