Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Thursday inaugurated the ECMO and pediatric bronchoscopy treatments in hospitals on the 9th Foundation day.
This is the first government hospital in Odisha to install sophisticated medical equipment.
Bronchoscopes are used to diagnose and treat respiratory diseases, such as endoscope for gastrointestinal diseases.
Now most hospitals and medical colleges use flexible adult bronchoscopes to diagnose and treat child respiratory diseases, but use adult challenging bronchoscopes in small children.

The Pediatric Department has planned a 14-bed ICU (10 for pediatrics and four for neonates) specifically appointed for children with severe and critical Covid-19 including MIS-C (multi-inflammatory syndrome in children).
Likewise, this institution has inaugurated an Oxygenation Membrane Upcale Membrane (ECMO) (First at the General Hospital in Odisha) in the CTV Department of the Hospital.
This will help critical Covid patients who need an urgent ECMO treatment.

ECMO machines are very important for critical patients to pump and oxenate blood outside the patient’s body.
