Kolkata: A heritage school student, Ranjika Basu Majumdar, has topped the International Baccalaureate (IBDP) program, reaching a score of 45/45 to become part of the top 1% of the students globally.
This is the first time anywhere in East India obtained by a student gets a “perfect score”.
An 18-year-old child aged 18 years old, Majumdar will soon leave the country to pursue undergraduate programs in international relations in the Netherlands.
Majumdar initially took science in the ISC flow for Plus-II, but, after attending the class for three months, realizing that pure science was not for him.
“I want to study social science and language with science and mathematics, and it’s just possible on board IB.
So I switched.
I was lucky that my school was running two boards simultaneously,” he said.
Majumdar has studied German for five years and has won a scholarship from Goethe Institute to visit Gernany.
“That’s when I realized that I had to be in the stream of studies that would lead me to Europe,” he said.
Students have received a ticket to Leiden University in the Netherlands for the UG three-year program in international relations and organizations, and the campus is next to the international court in the Hague.
“It’s nice to think that I will be able to watch the event revealed directly in front of me than just reading about them.
I will be in the heart of global politics,” he said.
Majumdar has six subjects in the IB Plus-II program which is divided into three majors and three standard subjects.
“I am happy that I can learn mathematics and chemistry along with culture of language and social science.
This has expanded my Vista,” he said.
Proud of his achievements, the Principal Seema Sapru said, “We expect Majumdar to do well, but he has surpassed our expectations.
He is multi-talent; trained vocalist, an advanced public speaker, and a brilliant student.
He is one of them 1% of the top IB students this year to get a perfect score.
